What are your thoughts does the contraceptive pill make you put on weight?

When the Pill was first introduced it contained much higher levels of hormones than what is available in the formulations today (100-175 micrograms of oestrogen compared to 20-50 micrograms today). While weight gain was associated with these older high dose pills, the Pill formulations used today do not always result in weight gain. It is estimated that in the first year of use:
20-25% of women gain more than 2kg 60% of women experience no change or have a weight change within 2kg (both up and down) 15-20% of women actually lose more than 2kg weight (6). The progestogen in the Pill can increase appetite which may result in weight gain. Some women may also experience water retention but this can often be reduced by switching to a lower dose pill. The new low-dose Pill, Yasmin, now available in Australia, is said to be effective at reducing the symptoms of water retention.

Well I have seen women put on weight with the pill and I have also seen inhibited fat loss from it also. I think it entirely depends on which one you are taking and the level of the hormones. If you are prone to putting on weight it may exacerbate this tendency....in saying that I have seen women on the mini-pill lose fat quite successfully so that may be another option???

Well if you can abstain 4 12 weeks or at least work around your cycles, you should be OK...several ladies I know just use condoms and reckon they are bullet proof these days! I don't think I would be able to go without for 12 weeks though!!!

I haven't used oral contraception for years now, mainly coz I ain't getting me much lovin' anymore. It's been 12 months since the last time I got me any and that was a short lived relationship {he was a dud}, and it was 6 years before that that I was in a relationship. Not saying I went totally without in between relationships but condoms had that covered {pun intended} hahaha.

I will chip in here and say nothing beats a live, pumping, warm/hot bloded marital "aid" connected to a living person...so get a strap in ladies, heat it up with a hairdryer and paint a funny face on it!!

Damn, I don't even have a vibrator. I might have to go out and scout me some of the real thing. Hmm, maybe I need me a f-buddy. Ha, with my luck I'll come home early, alone, with an ice cream, a bag of lollies and a damn dvd.

And hwere in lies the problem with the lollies and dvd - damn sight more relaible at making you feel the same as a f-buddy if not better. Think about it...lollies,ice-cream and DVD will release endorphins and last a dman sight longer and you just KNOW they will be good if not great, and it's all about YOU having total pleasure....now what f-buddy has ever delivered those quaranteed results!!!

This is true, littlekiwi, but sometimes ya know, it takes more than just a lil' sugar. Sure the tongue might be happy with the sweets, but I have other needs too and my tongue won't reach that far, hahaha...
