I put this question to my good friend Gina. I proudly told here I was trying to lose weight and that I was doing 90 mins of cardio at least per day as well as my 5 day weights ....
To which she replied "Too much cardio!!"
On her recommendaton I have taken it down to only 40-50 mins first thing 5 days a week .. my strength is much better in the gym.
So what are your thoughts on cardio? How much for fat loss?

How much for fatloss?
I say start with as little as possible you can always increase when your weight loss platues. I believe lots of people do way, way to much cardio.
You are going to get your best fat loss through diet.

Why do women think they have to do heaps of cardio and eat nothing to lose then??

Why do women think they have to do heaps of cardio and eat nothing to lose then?? I don't really know? I spend most of my day explaining to females that doing weight training isn't going to actually make you look muscle bound and bulking. That is there major concern, sometimes they take alot of convincing to come out of the cardio room and let me set them up with a weights program.

Right now, considering i havent worked out in ages, i am only doing 20 minutes aday. I am seeing good losses over the past month or so. I a few more I will be going to 30 minutes. I dont ever see doing more then 45 minutes, unless it is sprint work, in which there is down time.
why is it so hard to convince someone, that if they have more lean mass, their body burns fat more effieciently. ugh.....the other one that kills me is this: "I have been running 5 miles a day, how did I gain 5 pounds." Its becuase you legs are getting stronger dummy.
argh.

more patience.....you dont realize how bored i get riding the bike at the gym, yet i know if i went out and ran, i would probably die of a heart attack...

Personally if fat-loss is the objective then I don't think you can go past interval training. Of course probably not the best plan if heart failure is a possibility???

sprints are awesome. i want to do them....which makes me wonder about my mental stability. but you are correct. you definatly want to aviod anaerobic exercise for any extended duration of time. either multiple sprints with breaks, or longer slower paced (aerobic) runs. That way you burn the fat, and not any of the lean mass.

the heart failure thing is in jest. i have not done any type of running in nearly 6 years. i had a few football injuries that cuased me to quit exercising all togehter, and am now just get back into it. i have just grown extremely bored of being in the gym, i need some fresh air....

Glad to hear it, wouldn't want a heart attack on my conscience. Good on you for getting back to it. When I was running sprints were the best. I did multiple short sprints. Hate them cos they are hideous to do but love them for the results.
I'm not running at all now but still do intervals on the treadmill, only difference is I now walk them. Still good.

I have experimented with HIT 3-4 times a week for 20 mins on stepper or bike with heart rate over 160. Very hard work but feel SO good afterwards and good results.
