What in your opinion is the best workout regimine, for pure strength gains?
Size and shape not a matter, just getting as strong as possible.

Well I brought this subject up with quite a few people from my gym, they all said google Westside Training Program. Apparently Westside has a program for Power Lifters and now one for body builders which brings me to the subject of a lot of bodybuilders using a power lifting phase for their training. Heres a link to some more info about it: www.bodybuilding.com/fun/elitefts1.htm

This topic has been thrashed heaps lately with heaps of people contributing and the general opinion is that doing a power lifting phase is extremely beneficial for both strength gains and to improve progress for bbers. However it was strongly stressed that perfect form is a must to prevent injury.

interesting. i had heard some stuff about powerlifting, and bodybuilding. I can see how many of the dynamic lifts, can hit the smaller muscle groups that many forget to target. that was a very interesting article, thank you Lisa. I will definatly look into the Westside program. sounds interesting. thank you too so much. no i gots some thinking and planning to do. rigth now i am starting a phase to get my muscle groups stronger and used to lifting again, and in a few months probably hi something like this. just so i can be more active and what not.

Strength improvement come from doing explosive compound movements. I have trained with powerlifters and Olympic Weight lifters (Commonwealth and Olympic Gold Medalists) who inturn have been trianed by the best Bulgarian and European lifters. No doubt the rules are simple.....deadlift, powercleans, snatch-pulls, BACK SQUAT, FRONT SQUAT and LOTS and LOTS of SQUATTING - all these movements need to be done at near maximum weight you can handle, never going over 3 reps and every work out doing singles at 100% to 110% of weight. Volume also paramount. These boys train for 3 hours at a time with rest periods between sets of 3 to 4 mins to allow full strength recovery. Also EVRY workout (6 days per week they train) they SQUAT!!! SQUAT is key. Remember they aren't bodybuilders so BIG muscles they don't care about hence such volume won't help size...BUT WILL train your nervous system, improve power and speed and condition your joints, tendons and ligaments...all the things a powerflifter/olympic lifter need. Also such workouts give muscle density.....a look boidybuilders definitely need! Dorian, Johnny Jackson and King Coleman all trained like power/olympic lifters for most of their carreers and it shows
