When preparing for a contest how many of you have a cheat day?
Is a cheat day good, or should the cheat day be reduced to a cheat meal?
I know by throwing in some junk or high fat food you ultimately trick your metabolism and can subsequently speed up fat loss. Always helps you keep mentally sane.
Any thoughts?

I definately have cheat days, but once i get down to about 6 weeks out, it's just a cheat meal.
Because my comp prep diet is high in protein and fat, the cheats are high in carbs. Not so much junk type foods, though I will now and again, but carbs of high and low GI

Personally I think a day is what is needed to boost the metaboilsm for several days after. One meal is not enough. Analyse why you only have a cheat meal...is it because you are woried about getting fat from a whole day of pigging out? If so..DON't!! One day is seven won't hurt you it will halp you. Think about if you weight trained one day in seven you wouldn't get any results, so pigging out 1 dy in 7 won't increase your BF but WILL drive up your thyroid levels and hence lipoysis. Think we all get "temporary anorexia" when dieting where we think even a few carbs will make us fat....THEY WON'T!!!! Carbs important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

personally I don't like the word 'cheat' because it implies a negative concept of restriction in the first place. I prefer to use TREAT!

What about our good old friend Cadbury's ;D While our good friend Cadbury is oh so yum { I prefer Club dark chocolate though } you have to remember it's sugar, a simple carb, which is burnt quickly. The cheat or treat should be more complex carbs for the slow burn which restocks the glycogen levels and keeps you going longer without the dump at the end that leaves you feeling worse or more lethargic than before you ate.

Disagree...the thermogenic response one is looking for from a cheat day PLUS the glycogem load isn't sifficient from slow carbs. Fast carbs is what one needs as you only have 24 hours to "load the muscle and metablosim" - food is food and obsession woth clean v no clean carbs isn't important here...food is simply fiel and you need to pump methonol not 98 octane in the body on these "cheat days"...which i do agree is a bad term Becks..."Treat" or "Thermo-primer" day is a better term. Next day lethargy is to be expected as well as bloat but that is irrelevant as you train through this given you know about it prior
